Hi, I'm Tanya
I have a lot of opinions about content and it breaks my creative heart when I see it being done badly.
But out of something negative grows something positive
My Story
My iGaming career started in May 2020 when I joined Videoslots as a CS agent. Not sure how much you know about Videolots but it’s a small outfit and they have a very different approach to Content compared to PokerStars! (Hint: it’s not as good.)
I became a team leader 9 months later and looked after the German and UK teams (circa 15 agents). VS are best known for their slot games but have a small market share of poker and casino too. It’s here that I learned a lot about the industry, the products and the customers, some of whom were – um - colourful. It was here that I also learned how to simultaneously be polite and diplomatic online whilst swearing my head off out loud. I was even awarded a certificate for it.
Before then, I’d had a 15-year career in financial services in London where, among other things, I wrote the digital content for Swiss Re’s offshore oil and gas risk and ran a blog called ‘The Black Stuff’. Parallel to that, I taught grammar and literary analysis to candidates applying for the Eton scholarship and less privileged secondary schoolers in the North London estates. (And yes, they did sound like extras from a Guy Ritchie movie).
After winning two script-writing awards, I moved to another company to get more involved with their marketing and communication functions. In 2016 – year of the (now infamous) Brexit referendum – I came to Malta on holiday and just kind of never went back :/ I went on to work as a senior broker in Ta’Xbiex before heading off to Singapore for a bit to head up the Content function for a start-up creative agency. Having fallen in love with Malta, I decided not to take up a permanent position in Singers and I came back looking for permanent content roles while I proofread for the UN and European Commission.
Also took up two master’s degrees back-to-back which was really dumb. Don’t ever do that!
I ended up at a software company as the Manager for Content and Customer Education. My first task there was to write an article for the Times of Malta using a pencil and paper because no-one had organised a computer for me(!) When the pandemic hit, the company chose to halve the salaries of all its employees, so I found my way into iGaming where, thanks to a surge in bored and locked down UK players, business was booming.
People also needed a laugh, it turns out, so my role as a semi-pro stand-up comedian was a busy one and I performed at places like Spazu Kreattiv, City Lights in Valletta, Planet Hollywood, Chateau Buskett and Oyster Lounge with XFM Radio. I was lucky enough to be interviewed by Jay from XFM in 2021 which was good fun.
In my role at PokerStars, my job was to fill Bertie’s (very large) shoes and do a great job, both as an editor and content writer.
If there is one thing I love, it’s discussion and my favourite subject happens to be how we use English words. While I contribute to my team's professional development
You’ll find me a typical chatty Londoner and I love elevating content to have maximum impact on anyone who reads it.
